How simple workouts drive better results
April’s Theme: Adventure Training
Today’s topic: Simplicity drives results
I had a client come to me with a “but I’m doing all the things” problem.
🥵 She was lifting weights 5 times per week.
🥵 And running or hiking several miles per week.
🥵 She was eating “well/healthy.”
🥵 She was constantly reading and learning about fitness.
AND YET—
🫠 Her body fat was high.
🫠 Her stamina was low.
🫠 She was often hungry or shaky.
🫠 She didn’t feel equipped to push hard and do well at all the adventures she had planned.
She also had a career and a family, so she needed her plan to be a little flexible.
By the end of our time together in the Academy, she had:
Lost fat
Built muscle
Set PRs in all her races
And stayed completely uninjured doing it
Here’s how I helped her do it:
😎 I simplified her training. She was doing too much in the gym and expecting her body to have strength and stamina leftover outside the gym.
😎 I helped her build and practice nutrition habits that actually fueled her body and felt sustainable for her. No calorie counting or restrictions needed.
😎 I helped her build a recovery plan that allowed her body to get stronger, have more energy, and sleep better.
😎 If she was having a chaotic week in her life, I helped her dial down her efforts to something more manageable so she didn’t quit and have to start again.
Because life is unpredictable and perfection doesn’t exist, we practiced all these things for a whole year so they felt second nature to her.
Now she doesn’t need me in order to thrive on her own. And that makes for a very happy coach indeed.
Here’s the lesson:
Most fitness programs are NOT designed for people who want to be active/have a life outside the gym.
They have too many exercises, too many sets, too much weekly volume, and sometimes excessive cardio to boot.
AND they don’t provide sustainable nutrition (ie you can do it forever) that fuels peak performance.
This makes people exhausted, breaks down their bodies, and keeps them stalled out, or worse, sliding backward.
SIMPLICITY is a measurement of mental energy, not physical challenge.
Don’t let your ego trick you into thinking more is better.
The measurement for “better” is the results you’re getting for the effort you’re putting in.
If you’re feeling stalled out, join the Academy and let’s channel your efforts into the things that will actually propel you forward.
This month we’re diving into simple, effective, functional movement strength training!
