Equipment List

For working out at home

[Required] 2 adjustable dumbbells that go up to 50lbs EACH

If this feels overwhelming to you, let me assure you that you will get strong fast (especially your lower body) and you don’t want to outgrow your equipment!

These will keep you in the muscles for a long time. They are much more compact than other adjustable DBs (*cough* Bowflex) and they are super easy to use. Highly recommend.

[Required] Mini resistance bands

These are great for certain bodyweight exercises like clams, as well as adding form support to squats, bridges, hip thrusts, and deadlifts. Always handy!

[Optional] Smart Scale

If you’re coming into the Academy with a body composition goal of some kind (lose fat, build muscle), I highly recommend getting a scale that tells you your body fat vs muscle mass (and other cool stats like bone density!).

Why? Because in this program you WILL build muscle. And muscle weighs something. So even if you’re losing fat, the scale number might not go down and that freaks some people out.

This is helpful encouragement that you’re improving your body composition by building muscle and losing fat at the same time.

This is the exact scale I use. I tested it against skin caliper measurements and it was spot on and it’s easy to use.

[Optional] Long resistance bands

These help with pull-ups, pre-hab work, and adding challenge to free weights! Again, super handy to have around.

(They now make these in colors other than primary so your home gym doesn’t have to look like a daycare. Hoorah for advancements in technology!)

[Optional] Fractional Plates

These are AMAZING when you get stuck trying to progress upper body muscles like your shoulders. They allow you in increase the weight for each dumbbell by only 2.5lbs instead of the standard 5lbs, which is often too heavy.

Highly recommend!

[Optional] Adjustable Bench or Glute Bench

A bench just allows you to do more exercises, like bench press and split squats, BUT you can get creative around the house without one.

The Glute Bench by GluteLabs is also a great minimalist option. You’ll want the large.
